At C3, we lead with data and insights. One of our favorite data sources is Circana (formerly NPD Group), which provides us with regular reports on families’ purchase behavior at restaurants. We’ve just received their full-year 2022 data and here’s our main take-away:
Families with children continue to be very important to restaurants.
- In fact, families with kids 12 and under make up one quarter of all restaurant traffic. That’s an important share of any restaurant’s traffic!
- Families with young children drive MUCH larger checks: when kids 12 and under are present, average check is twice as high as occasions when they’re not present.
The Bottom Line
Making kids and parents feel like welcomed guests, whether they’re dining in or getting food to-go, is good for restaurant traffic AND revenue.
